How to Write an Address in Spain: Format, Postcodes and Examples

Addresses in Spain follow their own order and postcode rules. This guide shows how to write one correctly, with real postcode examples and the most common mistakes, whether you are sending mail, building a checkout form or preparing test data.

Address format

Street type and name, comma, number, then floor and door, followed by postcode, town and province.

Daniel Martínez Plaza de la Paz, 7 31016 Pamplona (Navarra)

Spain postcode format

Format: 99999

Spanish postcodes (código postal) have five digits. The first two digits identify the province, so 28 is Madrid and 08 is Barcelona.

Sending to Spain from abroad

Write the address exactly as it is used locally, then add the country name in capital English letters on the last line.

Álvaro Moreno Calle Mayor, 33 35280 Santa Lucía (Las Palmas) SPAIN

Tips and common mistakes

  • Floors and doors follow the number: Calle Mayor, 12, 3º B.
  • The province can go in parentheses after the town.
  • Common street types are Calle, Avenida, Plaza and Paseo.
  • Use the first two digits of the postcode to check the province.
